2. Functionality: These units are usually still functional and can play music from cassette tapes, which adds to the nostalgic experience of driving a classic car.
3. Availability: These units are still widely available on the secondary market, making them relatively easy to find and purchase.
Cons of buying a 1979-1981 Delco stereo unit for a Firebird or Trans Am:1. Limited Features: Compared to modern stereo units, these units have limited features such as no CD player, no Bluetooth, and no USB ports.
2. Sound Quality: The sound quality of these units may not be as good as modern stereo units due to the age and technology of the components.
3. Compatibility Issues: If you want to connect modern devices like smartphones or MP3 players to the unit, you may need to purchase additional adapters or cables.
Conclusion: If you're a fan of classic cars and want to add to the retro feel of your Firebird or Trans Am, a 1979-1981 Delco stereo unit can be a great choice. However, if you value modern features and sound quality, you may want to consider upgrading to a more modern unit.
Recommendation: If you're set on a vintage look, I would recommend purchasing a fully functional unit and having it professionally installed to ensure it's safe and secure. If you value modern features, consider upgrading to a more modern unit that can be integrated seamlessly with your car's existing audio system.
Please feel free to ask any questions before buying. All the mounting wires are intact. The knobs and the bezel in the picture are included. This was taken out of my car many years ago to replace with an aftermarket unit and worked fine when it was removed.
Listed is a delco stereo radio out of a 1980 Pontiac trans am. The knobs do show some wear where the chrome has flaked off but overall the knobs are in pretty good condition for their age.
It has been in storage for many years. The front facial does have some wear on it. I have not hooked it up to test it so I can not guarantee that it will work now. Cosmetically it is in very nice condition.
