The 980798 Buick Radio Auto Sonomatic, a vintage gem from the 1950s, is an exquisite piece of automotive history. This tube radio, designed specifically for Buick vehicles, is a testament to the advanced technology and elegant aesthetics of the era.

The radio's housing is crafted from high-quality materials, giving it a robust and timeless appearance. The dial, featuring easy-to-read numbers and clear markings, allows for simple and precise tuning, ensuring you never miss your favorite station on the road.

The heart of this radio is its powerful tube-based amplifier, capable of delivering rich, crystal-clear sound. The speakers, expertly tuned to complement the amplifier, fill the car with music, making every drive an audio adventure. The radio also includes an array of inputs, such as a phono jack for connecting external music sources, allowing you to enjoy a wide range of audio entertainment.

The 980798 Buick Radio Auto Sonomatic is more than just a radio; it's a piece of automotive heritage. It's a time machine that transports you back to the golden age of motoring, when the open road and the soothing sounds of the radio were the epitome of freedom and enjoyment. Whether you're a classic car enthusiast or simply appreciate the charm of vintage technology, this radio is a must-have addition to your vintage Buick.

Pros of buying a Buick Radio Auto Sonomatic Tube 980798 from 1950:

1. Authenticity: This vintage radio is a classic piece of automotive history, adding a unique touch to any classic car or collection.

2. Functionality: Despite being an older model, these radios often still work well with the right care and maintenance. This one uses tubes instead of transistors, which some enthusiasts prefer for the sound quality.

3. Rarity: Due to its age, this specific model is not mass-produced and may be harder to find, making it a sought-after item for collectors.

Cons of buying a Buick Radio Auto Sonomatic Tube 980798 from 1950:

1. Availability of parts: As a vintage item, replacement parts might be challenging to find or expensive.

2. Requires more maintenance: Tube radios require more frequent maintenance than modern transistor radios, such as regular tube alignments and cleaning.

3. Power consumption: Older tube radios consume more power than modern ones, which might impact your car's battery life.

Conclusion:

If you are a classic car enthusiast or collector, the Buick Radio Auto Sonomatic Tube 980798 could be an excellent addition to your vehicle or collection. However, be prepared for the maintenance and repair costs associated with its use. Make sure you have a reliable source for replacement tubes and consider the impact on your car's electrical system.

Recommendation:

If you decide to purchase this vintage radio, ensure you have a good understanding of its maintenance requirements and are prepared to invest the necessary time and resources into keeping it functioning well. It's also wise to research and connect with other collectors or enthusiasts who can offer advice and guidance on sourcing replacement parts and maintaining the radio.

Details:

Old tube type Buick am radio. Speaker grill looks pretty good with a few small dings. Heavy, it weighs 18 pounds. Sold as is condition see photos.

Back cover comes off easily with 4 screws, and looking at backside all parts seem to be there. I do not hear any rattling when it is moved around. Marked model on metal tag.

I did not hooked it up and test it. It is in as found condition, unaltered and untested by me except for a light cleaning, would clean up better. The b push button cover is missing.

The on off volume stem on left seems working. I combine ship as much as possible to save on postage. Sold for parts or repair. Marked sonomatic I don't know what this came off of probably a 1950's but if you do please let me know.

Still has outer rubber gasket for the speaker. This is an old original item. Tuner stem on right is turning but is not moving the dial very much at all. Aging and wear to be expected.

This is used and vintage. About 10 inches tall, 10 inches wide, and 8 inches deep. The 5 push buttons push in and out but do not move the dial. There are no knobs on the volume or tuner.
