Lower 48 us shipping only. Mainly two things led me to this conclusion first, the mounting studs basically carriage bolts appear to be silver soldered into clean rectangular slots on the bottom cover of the unit.

This offer is for a used, working 8 track tape player for 1966 Ford, mustang, falcon, fair lane, their mercury counterparts and other cars. Since speakers had to be purchased separately anyway, this made sense from an inventory aspect.

You are buying as is, as shown. Note the mounting ears that are for under dash hang on mounting.

About 10 years ago, I came up with an am 8 track and have decided to go with it in my 66, thus making this available. Just purchase speakers from most major mustang or bird supplier, get a working 8 track tape of your choice, hook up the power feed and ground the unit and you re back in the 60 tonight. As noted above, the last picture is a generic picture shown for information only it is not of the item offered in this offer.

This is indicative of all units being virtually the same, no matter what model thus, while the units were stamped with specific model applications, they could have been used in most any model. A word of caution should you desire to try this out before installing it in your vehicle, do not try using a battery charger it will not work. In addition, the master parts catalog shows the console mount unit with a one piece cover.

This likely was the result of what the dealer had in stock. Changing tracks is accomplished by pushing in on left hand knob this also works as designed. Not wanting to destroy the configuration of the original unit whether owner or factory dealer modified, I made a bracket that would attach to the unit to give it the capability and similar appearance to a hang on unit. Also note that the rear cover is pebble grained like the front, and integral with the front.

On the unit I am offering in this offer, there is no evidence of ears ever having been riveted to the metal chassis of the unit, the mounting holes are present, but show no sign of ever having a rivet or screw in them. No speakers or tapes are included. Shortly after, I had it serviced to be sure everything was in good working order.

My history lesson for the day now over, back to the unit I am offering for offer. Ford actually carried this even farther in their magazine advertising, noting that this as I mentioned previously, I picked this up in the early.

Second, and most definitive, is the unit plastic case. I have had 4 or 5 of these units over the years, and all appear like the one currently for sale here on item 17.

If you want to try it out, hook it up to a functioning car battery and you re set. Common battery chargers do not have the amps to make most 8 track players function correctly, and could damage the unit.

Also note the rear cover, which is basically a smooth sleeve that slides over the back and is not integral with the front part of the cover. This is the only one like this I have ever seen, and at least to me, confirms that this unit was built as a console or hump mount unit. It is fairly well known, and has been documented by others, that it is not unusual to find a fair lane marked unit in a mustang a full size marked unit in a falcon etc. As a matter of fact, the only real difference between model applications is the configuration and number of speakers and if a fade control was included.

After gaining more knowledge of these units through the years, I came to the conclusion that this was not an owner modified unit. Unit fits any car variety of speaker kits available from 24. Unit plays well. I originally purchased this at a swap meet in the early for my1966 mustang.
