They are not poly surrounds and rotted. The speakers themselves are simple dual cone. The red material is a thin felt which could be easily replaced with another color to match your interior theme. Up for grabs is this pair of rare and very vintage Pioneer car speakers.

The surrounds are cloth with some kind of elastic coating, which has flaked off but could be recorded a flexible PVC or rubber liquid. They are built well and when quality took precedence over economy. The real gem here are the grills.
